Biking & Hiking
Bicycling
With many bicycle (off-road) trails, bike lanes and low-traffic roads, the Niagara Region offers a great diversity of landscapes, historic towns, tourist attractions, wineries, museums, cultural centres, beaches, festivals, restaurants, conservation areas and parks to explore. Your challenge will be choosing what to do with limited time!
Although cycling in Niagara tends to be flat and easy, there are hilly, scenic choices for the more experienced or adventurous cycler. These areas are indicated on the Niagara Region Bicycling Map. The Niagara Escarpment and Short Hills Conservation area are particular places to look for adventure! Be sure to map and plan the riding distances and time required for your day trip or weekend getaway.
For more information, maps, suggestions, day trips and tips, visit The Toronto-Niagara Bike Train's website.
Here at Bird Song Chalet, we recognize the cost associated with bicycling equipment and have taken great pains to ensure that our guests' equipment is safely stored inside, under lock and key. As with so many of our extra considerations, this area is free for our guests' use.
Hiking
The Niagara Escarpment Reserve was named a World Biosphere Reserve in 1990 and boasts some of the most rugged and beautiful landscapes in the world. The Bruce Trail runs extensively through the region, beginning at Queenston Heights, Niagara and terminating in Tobermory, Ontario. The hiking trails take you to the edge of cliffs, past thundering waterfalls and through quiet forests. There are trails for all competency levels and ages, so plan ahead, pack a picnic and enjoy the journey!
